Default F1 2010 Testing Times.

Formula 1 teams' preparations for the new season have begun in earnest on Monday as the new cars hit the track for the first time in testing.
Six new cars are running at the Valencia track in Spain at the start of a three-day test.
Three of the sport's big four teams have their new cars on track - McLaren, Mercedes and Ferrari - along with Williams, Renault and Sauber.

Will post lap times as they become available.

Michael Schumacher has made a very fast return to F1 action.

The German made his first timed run in a F1 car in over three years when he took the wheel of the new Mercedes at the start of the afternoon session on Monday in Valencia.

And he was immediately quick. Very quick.

Within just twenty laps of his return to action, Schumacher bettered the fastest time recorded by his Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg during the morning.

There is, of course, no way of knowing what sort of fuel level Schumacher and Rosberg are carrying and conditions in Spain are said to have improved throughout the day. But it would seem as if the expectation that Schumacher would need time to readjust and reacclimitimse to the sport has been very quickly debunked...

Provisional Mid-Afternoon Fastest Laps Chart
Pedro De la Rosa Sauber 1:12.784
Felipe Massa Ferrari 1:12.842
Michael Schumacher Mercedes 1:13.449
Nico Rosberg Mercedes GP 1:13.543
Gary Paffet McLaren 1:13.846
Rubens Barrichello Williams 1:14. 449
Robert Kubica Renault 1:15.298
Sebastian Buemi Toro Rosso 1:19.279

Default Re: F1 2010 Testing Times.

Felipe Massa marked his official return to F1 action with the quickest time on the opening day of pre-season Formula 1 testing at Valencia in Spain. The Brazilian left it until the closing minutes of the day, following a brief red flag period, to set his best effort of 1m12.574s - giving a clear signal that he has lost none of his speed following last year's Hungarian Grand Prix qualifying accident.
Massa had been quickest in the morning and, although losing the top spot early in the afternoon to BMW Sauber's Pedro de la Rosa, he moved back to the top near the end.
De la Rosa's effort was perhaps one of the biggest surprises. Just 24 hours after his BMW Sauber team made a low-key unveiling of its unsponsored C29, de la Rosa showed that a lack of works support had not hurt the team at all.
However, it was third fastest Schumacher's form on his return to F1 action that kept tongues wagging - as he quickly got up to speed in an impressive display.
The seven-time champion took over from team-mate Rosberg shortly before 3.30pm - steadily moving up the order as he got more comfortable with the car and new tyres.
He ended the day with a best lap of one minute 12.947s that came during the late flourish of quick times. It was less than four tenths slower than Massa and almost one second up on his team-mate.

Today's overall top times.

Pos Driver Team Time Laps
1. Massa Ferrari (B) 1:12.574 102
2. de la Rosa BMW Sauber-Ferrari (B) 1:12.784 74
3. M.Schumacher Mercedes GP (B) 1:12.947 40
4. Rosberg Mercedes GP (B) 1:13.543 39
5. Paffett McLaren-Mercedes (B) 1:13.846 86
6. Barrichello Williams-Cosworth (B) 1:14.449 75
7. Buemi Toro Rosso-Ferrari (B) 1:14.762 18
8. Kubica Renault (B) 1:15.000 69

But remember that those times don't necessarily mean anything as it is impossible to know what fuel loads the cars had in them at the time.

Since they are changing away from refueling how much are they carrying at race time?

Last year they carried a maximum fuel load of around 120 liters and this has doubled to 240 Liters...there as been some concern about this with some describing the cars and ticking time bombs, remember all this fuel sits around the driver, but in all honesty the fuel cells are amazingly strong and sophisticated but as we full well know anything can happen in a odd accident.

On to this mornings testing times...

1. F. Massa Ferrari F10 1:11.722 45 laps
2. K. Kobayashi Sauber C29 1:12.056 29 laps
3. L. Hamilton McLaren MP4-25 1:12.508 30 laps

Just thought i would add Valencia official spectator figures are in - 36, 400 fans today. A total of 59,100 over the three days.

A few years back you would not have seen these figures on a race day....Spain's Fernando Alonso sure has got the Spaniards in to the F1 spirit.

By the way Haiti will benefit from the sales of tickets over the past 3 days...nice to know F1 is doing their bit.

Rubens Barrichello and Felipe Massa tussled for top honours in the morning session at Jerez, where thankfully track conditions improved to allow for plenty of dry running.
